Why is there no single best courier for every business?
Search for a courier service Karachi list and you will find plenty of names, but a list cannot tell you which one suits your parcels. The right choice depends on where your customers are, what you sell, how many orders are cash on delivery, how many parcels you send a month, and how quickly you need your COD money back. A service that suits a large brand shipping nationwide may be a poor fit for a small business selling mainly in one city, and the reverse is also true.
So instead of ranking logistics companies in Karachi, this guide shows you how to evaluate any of them the same way, using your own numbers.
What should you ask about delivery time and coverage?
- Delivery time promise: what is the promised time from booking to delivery, and is it stated in writing? Is there a same day option and what is the booking cutoff?
- Coverage: which areas do they deliver to, and are any parts of the city or country excluded or slower? Check against the areas your customers actually order from.
- Delivery attempts: how many attempts are made before a parcel is returned, and is the customer called before each attempt?
- Pickup: will a rider collect from your shop or home, at what time, and is there a minimum number of parcels for pickup? Or do you have to drop parcels off?
What should you ask about COD payouts and deductions?
For a COD business this is the most important section, because cash collected at the door is your money until it reaches your account. The best courier service in Pakistan for COD, for your business, is the one that pays you fully, quickly and with a clear statement.
- Payout speed: how many days after delivery is COD cash paid to you, and on which days of the week?
- Payout method: bank transfer, cheque or another method, and is there a charge for it?
- Deductions: what is deducted from COD before payout, such as a COD handling fee, a percentage, tax, or delivery charges netted off? Ask for a sample statement.
- Reconciliation: is every collection logged against its parcel so you can match payouts to orders?
What should you ask about returns, tracking and customer notifications?
- Return handling: what happens when a customer refuses a parcel? How long until it is back with you, and is there a return charge?
- Return condition: are returned parcels inspected and logged, and who is responsible if an item comes back damaged or missing?
- Tracking: do you and your customer get a tracking link with live status, or only a booking number?
- Customer notifications: is the customer told by SMS, WhatsApp or call when the parcel is out for delivery, and are they reminded of the COD amount?
- Integrations: can orders flow in from Shopify, your own store, an API, or a CSV upload, or will you be typing addresses by hand?
What should you ask about pricing, contracts and support?
- Pricing structure: is it a flat price per parcel, or does it change by weight and zone? Get the full rate card, including what counts as extra weight or an outer zone.
- Extra charges: are there fees for fuel, packaging, insurance, re-attempts, returns or COD handling on top of the headline price?
- Minimums: is there a monthly parcel minimum, a setup fee or a deposit?
- Contract: is there a lock-in period or notice period, and what happens to your stock or pending COD if you leave?
- Support hours: who do you contact when a parcel is stuck, how, and during which hours? Is there a named person or only a general line?
- Claims: how are lost or damaged parcels compensated, up to what value, and how long does a claim take?
What are the red flags?
- Delivery times or COD payout days that are promised verbally but not put in writing.
- A low headline price with a rate card that is hard to get, or deductions that only appear on your first statement.
- COD statements that do not list each parcel, making it impossible to reconcile.
- No tracking link for the customer, or tracking that stays on the same status for days.
- Returns that take a long time to come back, or come back without any record of why they were refused.
- Support that cannot be reached during the hours your parcels are out for delivery.
- Pressure to sign a long contract before you have tested the service.
How do you run a test with 20 to 50 parcels?
Answers on a call are a starting point. A small, real test shows you what actually happens. Run it with each courier on your shortlist, ideally during the same week so conditions are similar.
- Pick 20 to 50 real orders, mixing COD and prepaid, near and far areas, and your usual parcel sizes.
- Record for each parcel: booking time, pickup time, first delivery attempt, delivered time, number of attempts, and outcome.
- For COD parcels, record the amount collected, the date it was paid to you, and the amount received after deductions.
- For refused or failed parcels, record the reason given and the date the parcel came back to you.
- Message a few customers afterwards and ask whether they got a tracking link or notification, and how the rider was.
- Calculate your own results: share delivered within the promised time, share returned, average days to COD payout, and true cost per delivered parcel.
To find the true cost per delivered parcel, add up every charge for the test (delivery, COD fees, return charges and any other deductions) and divide by the number of parcels actually delivered. This number, not the headline rate, is what you should compare.
